Mumbai! The Crown and the pride of Maharashtra, Mumbai is the home of Bollywood and is one of the busiest and the liveliest places in Maharashtra, and any trip to Maharashtra isn’t complete without visiting Mumbai at least once, it’s like visiting India Agra and missing the Taj.
But what after visiting Mumbai? It’s a big place and you might have to keep moving most of the time, so where would you go to relax and recover? Hotels? But they’re often costly and you can’t leave at the moment’s notice, plus they can be quite costly so your best bet might be Hostels.
At hostels, you can mingle either like-minded people, make friends, and share stories. All in all, make even better memories. Enough of this introduction, let’s get started with the main course already.
Here is the list of 15 Hostels In Mumbai For Backpackers:
- Price: ₹ 1,195/- (per person)
- Rating: 4.3
Zostel, one of the biggest hostels in Mumbai, and has been tagged as the best hostel for digital nomads in Mumbai. Zostel is located in Andheri East and about 4km from the Mumbai International Airport.
Zostel is quite different from the other hostels and has a highly vibrant and happy atmosphere where you can kick back and spend some quality time or pull a beanie bag, whip out your laptop and start working peacefully.
Zostel comes with a cafe, Bollywood themed terrace, and a common room studded with games! At Zostel you can also (obviously) chat with other fellow travelers from across the world and share your travel stories or give them some tips on travel.
I absolutely recommend Zostel as it takes comfort very seriously so ragging or eve-teasing is strictly forbidden, not only that but they also forbid intoxication. Zostel also provides travel assistance and free wifi.

The Social Space Hostel isn’t your average Hostel, in-fact it might be the best Hostel to stay at in Mumbai. It’s located in Andheri West and is a half-hour away from Mumbai International Airport, The Versova metro station is also located nearby.
If you’re solo traveling Mumbai, then you need to stay with Social Space Hostel at least once as their friendly environment can make you feel relaxed and at home and I daresay, the Social Space Hostel has the best hospitality among its peers.
Social Space Hostel offers plenty of games to curb your boredom and is also equipped with a cafe.

Hands Down, Backpackers Panda Colaba is the best hostel for couples in Mumbai. Even if you aren’t traveling as couples, Mumbai crowds can make you wish for a bit of privacy, and Backpackers Panda Colaba provides you with just that much-needed privacy.
If that reason isn’t enough to make you visit it, then do know that this hostel is located in the midst of all the famous attractions in Colaba.
Unlike other hostels, this one offers 2 common rooms (More space, More fun) that are equipped with a table football, musical instruments, and plenty of books that you can swap (my favorite thing).
If that’s not enough to get you buzzing then you can also enjoy rooftop parties in evenings and yoga in the morning. Backpackers Panda Colaba is a bit similar to the Social Space Hostel but unlike Social Space Hostel, you won’t get free breakfasts here.

Cohostel is located in Bandra West where something is always happening. If you’re visiting Mumbai for the first time, then I’d absolutely recommend you to visit Cohostel, Cohostel is a hipster style hangout amid street art, shops, and amazing nightlife.
Cohostel boasts a Bohemian style rooftop which often sees guests performing meditation and Yoga in early mornings. At Cohostel you can mingle with others with bottles of beer, play board games, or simply sit reading in a corner just for the sake of it. Here you get a free breakfast and the meals are available too but not free.

And finally, we’re at the last point it is another Namastey from Mumbai and another cozy and chill place to stay at. For history lovers like myself, this place is a must-visit at least once as it was originally a 100-year-old Portuguese style cottage.
Namaste has named dorms quite tactfully, and they’re named Namaskara, Pranam, and Namaskar. Sure they mean the same thing but they offer different living quarters; like Namaskara is a 14-bed dorm with 4 bunk and 6 private beds for mixed genders, Pranam with 6 bunk beds for female tenants, and Namaskar with 6 beds for mixed.
The majority of the rooms at Namaste are Air-conditioned including the indoor common room. They also have a huge Jamun (black plum) tree in their front yard where you can either chat or play games.
The cons I can point at is the curfew, which starts at 2300 hours and during which guests are asked to quiet down and No Pets.
